Your Identity Changed (Gospel Life Series: Episode 9 of 18)

Kyle Windsor

If you don’t owe your old life anything… why do you keep paying it?

Romans 8 shifts from struggle to identity: “We are not obligated to the flesh…” (8:12). That old life still calls and tempts—but it no longer owns you. You don’t manage sin, you put it to death—by the Spirit.

And here’s why: you’re not a slave trying to stay out of trouble—you’re a child who belongs in the house. “You have received the Spirit of adoption…” (8:15). You don’t have to earn your place with God—you already have it.

Even when life feels heavy, “the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing…” (8:18). Creation is groaning. We are groaning. Even the Spirit is interceding. This isn’t random—it’s redemption in motion.

You don’t fight for a new identity—you live from the one God already gave you. ✝️⛰️

This week at Backcountry.Church, we walk through Romans 8:12–27 and discover what it means to live as sons and daughters—with hope, even in the tension.
